Salt, I couldn't think of a better place to live to be honest with you. The only problem, as you mentioned, is finding work. Roaring Gap is the town you drive through on Highway 21 before you get to Sparta. Sparta is a great little town. Really something to see at Christmas. I had always thought a Wing-style offense would work really good up there. Good luck in getting the job. What part of the country are you coming from? |

I am coming from down east near Raleigh. My wife is from Weaverville, north of Asheville, and her parents live in Marion. We both went to WCU and I started my coaching career at Smoky Mt. We have been trying to get back to the mountains for about 9 years. We just really like the small town community, small schools, etc. We lived in the Charlotte area for most of the past 9 years. |

No, I used to coach at North Meck, and at Robinson for 5 years. Now I'm at Southern Lee HS. Charlotte is a great area to live. |

I went up to Sparta and talked to some friends of mine about Coach Maxwell. He was dismissed by the school board. Not as much for his three losing seasons. But, for the cussing and berating of players on the sidelines. He was suspended for one game for a situation outside the field house with some players. The ironic thing about that game, in which he was suspended, was the only game Sparta won that year. It came down to the school board having enough of his style of play on the field and the character he showed off the field. As of right now, a new coach has not been hired. Speculation is that they will let one of the assistants move up to that position. |

Today, I came back from Sparta. I talked to a couple of my friends about the Alleghany program. They are pleased with the new coach. One told me that it is good to have a coach with a playbook with more than 5 to 10 plays in it. Alleghany is 1-1. That may not seem like much but winning the opening game is the first in abour 5 seasons. They have the possiblity of winning at least 5 games this year. |

The Trojans of Alleghany are looking mighty impressive another win of Andrews (34-30) puts them at 2-1. Big test this Friday when they take on the Bears of Mt. Airy. |

Ok, talked to the old man who was actually at the Alleghany/Mt. Airy game. He said Mt. Airy throws alot of different looks at you and work alot from the Spread. He said they use this big tight end they have who is about 6'5". Alot of speed. I don't think anyone in that conference will stay within 40 points of them. |

Allegany High School is playing some good football. A two point win over North Stokes on their homecoming night. By keeping the ball on the ground they were determined to win this game in order to bring their record to .500. They next head to a 4-2 Bishop McGuiness on Friday night. |

It is a simple ground game. Single set back or I formation. At this time, they are not putting the ball in the air, only as needed. My buddy told me that they will run trap or misdirection plays and options plays. |
